Paul du Toit Returns to Holland after a busy few years.

Paul du Toit exhibits solo at Gallery Plett in Zeist from the 25th September until the 6th of November 2004. He will be showing new works, eight bronze sculptures as yet unreleased in Holland, as well as selected paintings from his New York show. The sculptures to be viewed include the popular "Walk Unafraid", sporting the 'brilliantly-conceived mitochondrial-like emblem', that curator Koan Jeff Baysa commented on in his New York review. The paintings range from small full-body collages to huge close-ups of Paul's well known 'ungainly portraiture' of the inhabitants of PlanetPaul.

Du Toit is excited to be exhibiting in Holland again, three years after a successful show at the same gallery, and a number of prior appearances. "I love showing in Holland; the audience is so appreciative and well informed about anything to do with art. The cities and countryside inspire me every time I visit. The work has moved on a great deal from the last time I showed there, and I look forward to the reaction from those who are familiar with my work." This is Paul's tenth solo exhibition in six years, and his second solo in Holland.

Those less familiar with his career will be interested to note that du Toit participated in the notable traveling exhibition "70 over 2000", received a medal for sculpture at the Firenze Biennale Dell'Arte Contemporanea 2001, was shortlisted for the South Africa DaimlerChrysler Sculpture 2002 Award, and represented South Africa at the Toronto International Art Fair in 2002. This year he was selected to represent his country at the Artiade (Olympics for Visual Arts) in Athens, running concurrently with the Games. Out of the 4500 entries from 120 nations received by the Artiade, the jury selected 172 artists (including three South Africans) from 78 Nations. His paintings and sculptures have been placed in major corporate and private collections all over the world, and a number of his pieces have been successfully auctioned at Sotheby's. Paul has built up a great following of collectors in Holland, and enjoys working with the outstanding Gallery Plett.

Paul comes to Holland fresh from a successful solo show in New York in April, with the notoriously discerning NY art world delighted by his confident use of colour and forceful line work. With a number of sales, and a review in the September edition of both the 'New York Arts Magazine', and 'Arts and Antiques', he is well satisfied with his first foray into the USA. After November he will be preparing for his next solo exhibition, which takes place at the Erdmann Contemporary Gallery in his home town of Cape Town, early in 2005.
